Following on from the success of its flagship store in the heart of the city, urban farmers market Scarecrow now has a second location in Mount Eden to spread its love of locally-sourced ingredients and produce. The store initially opened as a pop-up in 2014 after owners Alison and Paul Dyson found it difficult to source good quality and ethical produce in one place. Six years on and they are still building on that goal to showcase Auckland's regional artisan producers and lessen their environmental footprint. The new satellite store, Scarecrow Grocer, is nestled between Wild Wheat and Ivy & Bean cafe at 811 Mt Eden Road. And just like the central city outpost, an extensive range of organic grocery staples and house-made deli items sit alongside an onsite florist. Here, blooms can be picked up in store or purchased online for delivery. Scarecrow Grocer's range of deli goods stretch far beyond your average supermarket luncheon selection and includes the likes of duck breast prosciutto and gravlax made by the Victoria Street team. The reheatable ready meals are perfect if you can't be bothered cooking — pick up family-sized pies like chicken and porcini, lamb shank tajine, creamy potato gratin and boeuf bourguignon. Scarecrow Grocer also serves as an off-license, stocking organic and vegan wines by way of Waiheke and Central Otago and local craft beer to pair with your on-the-run dinner. Over 200 producers are showcased across the selection of grocery staples, and there's everything from artisan honeys to organic chocolate, fair-trade coffee. The new store also allows the Scarecrow team to host workshops on-site. Find Scarecrow Grocer at 811 Mt Eden Road. It's open seven days from 8am–6pm.
