Leave your never-been-washed, barely-even-waterproof, mildew-stinking tent in the back corner of the downstairs cupboard; Auckland Council is bringing a touch of luxury to Auckland campgrounds this summer. The Council's glamping tents, which are fully furnished canvas Lotus Belle tents, can now be found at the Ōrewa Beach Holiday Park, Martins Bay Holiday Park and Wenderholm Regional Park for those wanting a hassle-free camping experience with all the modern creature comforts. Auckland Council Manager of Holiday Places Thomas Patterson says as the glamping pilot last season was popular, the number of tents and furnishings have increased. "There are currently two tents at Ōrewa Beach, four at Martins Bay and six at Wenderholm that are available for booking. From February, there will also be a year-round EcoStructure glamping offering, which will provide even more comfort and space to enjoy the glamping experience." Fit for up to four humans, with a floor diameter of five metres, the glamping tents come furnished with a queen size bed, plus single beds if required, linen, table, chairs, kitchenette, a barbecue, cooking utensils, toilet facilities (nearby) and a fresh water supply. The service aims to take away the pressure of having to purchase and transport all the equipment needed to go camping — leaving budding glampers with nothing to bring along but food, wine, clothing and the family's century-old version of Scrabble. Pricing depends on the location and number of guests. The "glampsites" will be available for as long as weather permits.
