Do you think your breakfast might taste better served with a piratic touch? It could be time to head over to Kickstarter and put your money where you hope your mouth’ll be.

Joe Sandor is asking for $13,000 by June 2, to enable him to turn his pirate pancake griddle dream into a reality, in the form of two limited edition runs of the prototype illustrated.

As of May 15, 108 backers have pledged Sandor a total of $10,135, a positive response that may well be the consequence of previous success. 2012 saw the pancake enthusiast raise $6,000 to create a crepe pan.

Having spent seven years working in cast iron, Sandor has developed a sophisticated understanding of both old-fashioned and modern processes.  The prototype that you see here was made in Chicago via a combination of digital design, computer numerical control (CNC) milling, and green sand iron casting.

‘This whole idea was first conceived of as a cast iron cookware company that was not simply limited to crepe pans,’ Sandor explains in his proposal. ‘Ultimately we plan to develop and produce custom artist designed waffle irons, pizzelle presses, griddles, etc.’

Rewards for supporters vary from a visit from the pancake pirate in your dreams (for $1 or more), to a pdf of the skull and crossbones vector file (for $13 or more), to a griddle from the first production run ($93 or more), to a ‘create-your-own-design’ griddle (for $1,850 or more).
