Become The Face Of Your Furniture

Welcome to the world of egotistical ergonomics. Would you like your mug on that mug?

Whenever I try to discuss new technologies, such as 3D printing, with my parents, their expressions could easily be mistaken for that moment when a baby poops their diaper. Freeze, twist of neck, bit of an eyebrow raise and a general sense that something is just not computing upstairs. Pretty safe to say it's probably not the face they'd choose to immortalise in a piece of furniture.

That being said, if they really wanted to, the technology is now here.

French 3D printing company Sculpteo has created an app that lets consumers upload a photo of their face and incorporate it into the design of an object such as a vase, mug or really any type of furniture.

Talk about egotistical ergonomics.

The app is free from the iTunes store.  After downloading, users browse the range of personalisable objects, which they can then customise certain aspects of. The vase, for example, will form the grooves based on a photo of your side profile. There's even a his and her's vase that morphes you and your partner's faces into one. Just imagine the symbolism of hurtling that across a room during a lovers' spat.

This kind of technology, although a little narcissistic, is definitely fun and holds a high novelty factor. There's little doubt we can expect to see more of these customised apps as the field of 3D technologies developes.

My suggestion though would be to watch out for anyone that decides to invest in an entire white ware collection. That's kinda just weird.
