Overview
As the club football season wraps up, the international summer of football dawns upon us, where there is no bigger stage to showcase Nike’s latest football boots.
The most anticipated fixture of the club football calendar, the Champions League Final in Munich on May 19 2012, will see the debut of the Nike Clash Collection by some of the world’s finest players. With excitement continuing to build into the Northern Hemisphere’s summer, the crème da le crème of European football will be on show in Ukraine and Poland at the Euro 2012 championship, with Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal and Wayne Rooney of England are just some of the players lacing up in the brand new Nike range.
Nike’s most recent range features boots characterised by a splattering of colour, which appear very striking. The boots feature a front-half of traditional white, accompanied by an eye-catching tone at the rear, reflective of the traits of the player filling them. “The clash of traditional white with very modern and youthful colors will make a really powerful and disruptive statement on pitch,” said Andrew Caine, Nike Global Creative Director for Football Footwear. “The Nike Clash Collection delivers highly engineered boots with sharp color contrast reflecting the clash of rivalries and competition we will see this summer. We’re celebrating that with distinctive and stand out color.”
Each boot has been specially designed with the football player’s needs in mind. The Mercurial Vapor VIII features a solar red signifying "explosive speed", the CTR360 Maestri II a "blue glow for the assured midfielder", the T90 Laser IV "electric green for the deadly striker" and the Tiempo Legend IV "black for effortless and classic style".
A little closer to home, we will see New Zealand’s best also adorning the boots, with players such as Ryan Nelsen and Chris Wood, continuing their journey from the Premier League, to embark on their journey to Brazil in 2014. This release accompanies the newly designed All Whites strip and its unique recycled structure. Hopefully the Nike Clash Collection can help our boys in white rekindle the unbeaten success of the last World Cup, while creating some future football stars in backyards around Aotearoa.
