How to solve the work-all-day-party-all-night footwear dilemma? Carry cheap ballet flats in a tiny plastic pouch? Hobble around on heels from dawn to dusk, and bear the pain? Settle for a medium-height compromise? Give up and accept life on the ground?

We might have landed on the moon, discovered antibiotics, and engineered the world-wide-web, but this little problem has continued without a satisfactory solution. Until now, that is.

Candice Cabe and Nadine Lubkowitz have come up with an answer: Day2Night Convertible Heels. The US-based entrepreneurs have invented a shoe that comes with five different pairs of heels, enabling comfort during the working day, and an optional dash of glamour during the evening. Worn out heels can be replaced, without sacrificing the shoes.

The realisation of Day2Night Convertible Heels was achieved through crowd funding.  Having spent their savings and a considerable amount of their time on developing prototypes, Candice and Nadine discovered that the stainless steel they needed to "inject mould" the heels was expensive, even in China. They put up a $,15000 bid on Kickstarter and managed to raise $16,506.

Day2Night Convertible Heels are available online for $149.
