Keen to rejuvenate your jewellery collection but don't have the budget to do it Elizabeth Taylor-style? Where's your nearest Office Works? These DIY necklaces require only a packet of paper clips and a reel of traffic light-bright masking tape.

The brainchild of graphic and textile designer Jessica Jones, they're inspired by the work of 'fashion pioneer' Lauren Manoogian, whose 'paperclip statement necklaces' have fetched some sizeable prices.

According to Jones, 'They're the perfect, brainless thing to fiddle with while watching TV, or you could keep your kids busy for hours making chains. Make necklaces, or bracelets, or heck, garlands for your Christmas tree next December'.

All you have to do is link the paper clips together, in whatever pattern your creative imagination decides upon, then wrap each in masking tape. Clasps can be used to make the necklaces as long, or as short, as you'd like.

In Cambodia, disadvantaged youths and families have been trying to generate income by making and selling paperclip necklaces decorated with upcycled food packaging. Each piece is unique and demonstrates a sustainable, environmentally friendly approach to the manufacturing process.
