Nike's latest footballing creation has a green essence, quite literally. Designed and tailored in Italy, Nike has produced the globe's most eco-friendly football boot, which international Brazilian footballer Neymar will experience when he dons the new Nike GS football boot this Summer.

The Nike GS football boot complements the similarly recyclable nature of the Brazilian kit, with the shirt and shorts also made of the environmentally-friendly fabric consisting of recycled plastic drink bottles. The process of producing these recycled kits for national teams sponsored by Nike began in 2010. Nike has since rerouted over 115 million bottles from landfill sites, with each kit containing an average of 13 recycled bottles.

Nike has explored yet another niche, with the green elements of the boot include a bio-based traction plate made primarily from castor beans to ensure strength and flexibility on the pitch, accompanied by a sock liner made from 100% castor beans. The boots' laces, lining and tongue are made from at least 70% recycled materials.

“The Nike GS is the lightest and fastest football boot we’ve ever made and really defines a new era in how we create, design and produce elite football boots,” said Andy Caine, global design director for Nike Football. “When you can deliver a boot that combines high end performance and a low environmental footprint that’s a winning proposition for players and planet”.

The Nike GS will be available for purchase on 15th August. Until then, up and coming international footballing sensation, Neymar will have the privilege of the green feet, which will no doubt enhance his already extraordinary on-field repertoire.
