Bringing Tetris to Ties

Whether a tie like this would ever make it past a gag gift is anyone’s guess.

Feel like playing a classic video game on your tie? Stranger things have happened. Or have they? We’re not so sure.

The LED Tetris tie created by Bill Porter is a bizarrely intriguing concept born from his desire to wear something cool when teaching a group of kids at the FSU STEM Camp. We’re thinking he must have been seriously doubting his ability to keep them captivated with his teaching materials. That, or he has a very quirky sense of humour.

The tie is made of 80 WS2811 based RGB LED pixels and a DigiSpark microcontroller. The components are taped to a clip-on tie and the rest is, well, game time.

Whether a tie like this would ever make it past a gag gift is anyone’s guess. But there’s no doubt they definitely have something of a niche market appeal.
