Overview

Last year (August 2011) we looked into who New Zealand's most social artists were, based on number of fans on Facebook. This provided some surprising results. So we thought it was about time we re-looked at the topic, as there has no doubt been a number of new talent sprung on to the world stage and flying the kiwi flag on the world's largest social network.

1. FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS - 1,554,000+

Wasn't included in the last article, but most definitely should be. Surprising to see that they have the most popular fan base in Melbourne, Victoria. Certainly looking forward to their upcoming tour around New Zealand this year.

2. THE NAKED AND FAMOUS - 351,000+

According to it's facebook page, The Naked and Famous is most popular in London, England. While not the most press friendly band, they certainly let their music and their fans do the talking.

3. MT EDEN DUBSTEP - 282,000+

Probably a surprise to many, but after a recent billing at Coachella, Mt Eden's fanbase can only be expected to grow. Good to see it's most popular city is Auckland though. Represent!

4. Brooke Fraser - 276,000+

The daughter of an All Black has surprisingly been crushing it in Rio De Janeiro. If there was one place in the world to have a fan base, where else would you want it to be?

5. KATCHAFIRE - 220,000+

Auckland maintains its strong support for Katchafire, though I'm sure Hawaii isn't to far behind. They love them over there as much as we do.

6. KIMBRA - 211,000+

Exploded on the scene, and now touring with Foster the People. Great to see. Again though, the most popular city is Melbourne, Victoria. Come on Hamilton, get behind your girl.

7. FAT FREDDY'S DROP - 201,000+

Heard in cafes around the world, Fat Freddy's are still growing, gaining 30,000 fans in the past nine months. With the majority of its fanbase being Auckland, has Wellington forgotten their favorite sons?

8. LADYHAWKE - 168,000+

Her new album is out and touring New Zealand and Australia soon. And like The Naked and Famous, is most popular in London, England.

9. GIN WIGMORE - 129,000+

She's hot, she has a unique voice and a potty mouth which she pulls off. Her most popular fan base is her home town of Auckland.

10. SIX60 - 116,000+

Most popular in the city of sails, after sprouting out of Castle Street, Dunedin. Expect to see a strong growth in worldly fans as they pop their world tour cherry. That's unless all of the super kiwi's overseas didn't snap up the tickets before the other locals get the chance.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

SHAPESHIFTER - 111,000+

Will always remain a summer favorite for the super kiwis, Shapeshifter holds it's strongest support from us Aucklanders. Fiiiiiiiiiirrrre!

CROWDED HOUSE - 110,000+

The old dogs, with an average age of fans being 35-44 have still got it. Arguably paved the way for the aforementioned bands, us kiwis are always proud of our Crowded House and continue to claim them as to being our own. Even though the most popular city is Melbourne, Victoria, the Finn's were proudly born in the rose town of Te Awamutu.

Comment below on any that are missed. I'm sure there are some.
