Despite flying bicycles, 3D printing and smart watches, we're still a long way from making time travel a reality. However, a new app promises to add another dimension to the experience of travelling through the world's most romantic city. Journeyers can now see the sidewalks, waterways and landmarks as many a pre-war poet, novelist or journo might have seen them.

Compatible with both iOS and Android, the app, named 'Paris, Then and Now', enables the user to view over 2,000 Parisian locations as they would have appeared one hundred years ago. Little known trivia and entertaining stories are provided for each place. The physical aspect of the historical experience is heightened through the inclusion of old photographs, which can be superimposed on present reality.

The historically and geographically knowledgeable team behind Paris Then and Now is Maville Avant, which translates to 'My City Before (Now)'. It sounds like they're busy keeping their invention updated - the company's site states that they're adding a new location every day. Moreover, a bunch of other cities are covered by their apps, including Vancouver, Montreal, Barcelona and Nantes.
