Overview

At the end of the month Auckland's iconic Basement Theatre will celebrate its tenth birthday. In the past decade more than 250,000 audience members have passed through the theatre's iconic roller door to enjoy more than 600 shows and performances.

To celebrate this milestone the theatre is putting on a series of celebratory events starting on 24 October with cross-disciplinary mashup Stranger Things (no, not that Stranger Things, this one was created years before the hit TV show) in which 12 creatives are paired off with a complete stranger to create a new performance piece.

The ever popular Unseen:Unsaid returns on 25 October for two disruptive performances which will feature conversations about creating a healthier and more transparent arts industry and on 26 October, Basement Playlist will take visitors on a one-night journey through Basement Theatre's history with a performed excerpt from each of the organisation's ten years.

No birthday fiesta is complete without a party and the anniversary celebrations culminate in a massive Halloween party on Saturday, 27 October. Aptly entitled Ghosts of Basement Past, the night of dancing, performance and nostalgic feels will feature performances by Dynamotion, Coven and Villette, plus DJ sets from Half Queen, Peach Milk and Brown Boy Magik.
