Overview

As a child, artist Sakina Ewazi was among 433 refugees rescued from a distressed fishing vessel in 2001 by Norwegian cargo ship, the Tampa. This month marks the 16th anniversary of that rescue and the journey from Java.

16 Years Later is an exhibition that explores the time spent at sea and features letters from friends who also survived the voyage and who are now among the 150 rescued refugees settled here.

It's not very often that we get to hear stories such as these explored in the art world. Don't miss the round table discussion with Ewazi and the curator on Saturday 19 August.
