Overview

If you've always dreamed of heading to Utah for the largest independent film festival but never had the opportunity, here's your chance. A slice of Robert Redford's Sundance Film Festival is dropping by inner city Auckland for one night.

The 2019 Sundance Film Festival Short Film Tour is an 80-minute program of short films selected from this year's festival. Held in Utah every January, Sundance is widely considered to be the premier showcase for short films and the launchpad for many now-prominent independent filmmakers. Paul Thomas Anderson and Wes Anderson worked their way through Sundance's short film section. Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs, and Taika Waititi's What We Do in the Shadows all debuted there, as did Clerks, The Blair Witch Project, Donnie Darko and Napoleon Dynamite.

Including sharply-written comedy and drama to edgy genre and an intimate family saga, the 2019 program offers new audiences a taste of what the festival offers. The program includes Sometimes, I Think About Dying, the first short from director Stefanie Abel Horowitz; Fast Horse, which follows the dangerous tradition of bareback horse racing; Muteum, a drawn animation from author Aggie Pak Yee Lee; and Jury Award-winner The Minors from photography professor/director Robert Machoian Graham.
