Overview

If you've always dreamed of heading to Utah for the largest independent film festival but never had the opportunity, here's your chance. A slice of Robert Redford's Sundance Film Festival is dropping by inner city Auckland for one night.

The 2020 Sundance Film Festival Short Film Tour is an 80-minute program of short films selected from this year's festival. Held in Utah every January, Sundance is widely considered to be the premier showcase for short films and the launchpad for many now-prominent independent filmmakers. Paul Thomas Anderson and Wes Anderson worked their way through Sundance's short film section. Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs, and Taika Waititi's What We Do in the Shadows all debuted there, as did Clerks, The Blair Witch Project, Donnie Darko and Napoleon Dynamite.

Including sharply-written comedy and edgy drama, the 2020 program offers new audiences a taste of what the festival offers. The program includes The Deepest Hole, which chronicles the race to dig the deepest hole; Hot Flash, an animated comedy about a newscaster who is due to go live in the middle of a hot flash; Meats, which follows a pregnant vegan and her newfound craving for meat; and Grand Jury Prize-winner So What If The Goats Die. See the full program here.
