Overview

Ageold Festival is set to return in December after a successful first run in 2014. It's a booze-free all-ages show with admirable intentions. Here is how the organisers sum it up.

"The philosophy behind Ageold is a simple one - to subvert the tenuous marriage between music and alcohol cultures, and provide a safe environment for audiences of all ages to enjoy the absolute best in alternative music this country has to offer. NO DRINK, NO DRUGS, NO DICKS."

They have thrown together a lineup that is too good to say no too, even for those of us who cannot bear the thought of watching a band without a drink in hand. Held at Ellen Melville Hall in the central city, Ageold will be headlined by Liam Finn, the manic multi-instrumentalist who's Auckland shows are few and far between these days. Also on the bill are: Critics' Choice Prize nominees and future introspective indie superstars New Gum Sarn, loose alt-rock trio Rackets, and Flying Nun love children Salad Boys - all the way from Christchurch.

The full lineup includes: Liam Finn, Miss June, New Gum Sarn, Salad Boys, Rackets, Opposite Sex, Astro Children, Soda Boyz, Courtney Hate, Joe Says No, Yukon Era and Wellington Poetry Club.
