Aladdin the Musical
Shining, shimmering, splendid and the biggest Broadway show yet to perform in Auckland.
Overview
Aladdin the Musical is the biggest Broadway show yet to grace Auckland's stages. Back by the same theatrical producers who made the Lion King, Aladdin the Musical is based on the extremely popular 1992 Disney animated film (the film was the highest grossing movie of the year).
For those a little rusty on the childhood favourite, the story follows Aladdin, an Arabian street kid who happens upon a magical lamp which contains a genie. The Grand Vizier is also after the lamp, leading Aladdin to disguise himself as a prince to hide from him. While dressed up, he starts to mingle with the elite, including the Sultan and his daughter, Jasmine, who he falls in love with. Chaos ensues.
The Aladdin the Musical creative team are from excellent theatrical stock, sharing 23 Tony Awards amongst themselves from a lifetime of theatrical achievements. The show features all the favourite songs from the film as well as new music written by Tony and Academy Award winner Alan Menken (Newsies) with lyrics penned by the legendary Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast), Tony Award winner Tim Rice (The Lion King, Aida), and book writer Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer).
Aladdin the Musical is shining, shimmering, splendid and only performing in Auckland this January and February. Get your tickets already.
