Overview
If you haven't ventured into Auckland's CBD lately, you might be surprised to find some giant, otherworldly creatures have taken it over as their playground.
But don't be alarmed — they're works from Australian artist Amanda Parer's Fantastic Planet exhibition, part of the Auckland Arts Festival.
Parer's monumental installations were inspired by René Laloux's 1973 animated film of the same name and reportedly point to the vastness of the cosmos and imaginary alien races. Festival organisers say they encourage Aucklanders to "welcome them to the city" by playing with and photographing the works. In fact, post a photo on Instagram and you might just win a special prize from the art studio.
Popping up in Auckland's CBD, Wynyard Quarter, Manukau and Henderson from March 10 - 27, you'll be able to spot them no matter where you reside in Tāmaki Makaurau. Use this handy festival map if you need a few more clues.
