Overview
As part of Auckland Arts Festival, Anoushka Shankar will be treating audiences with her mesmerising sitar and songs from her brand new album, Land of Gold. Shankar's style appeals to all, with a wide array of world musical influences, from jazz to electronica, her adventurous approach to music has lead to collaborations with the likes of Sting, Herbie Hancock and M.I.A.
Be drawn in by her deeply expressive music, and world-class accompaniment including percussionist and hang player Man Delago, Sanjeev Shankar on Shehnai and Tom Farmer on double bass and keys.
Shankar is a great advocate for women's rights and social justice, which is freely expressed in her latest album as she uncovers tough topics of racial conflict and poverty. Her music is beautifully authentic to her heritage, with undertones of classical and flamenco influence.
Expect to enjoy a fun night out with the Queen of Sitar.
