Overview

The name Lola Wright may not be evident to the general public, but her 20,000 Instagram followers recognise that she has a talent for capturing natural beauty. As the title of the exhibition at Auckland's Allpress studios suggests, Wright's pictures have a water theme flowing through them.

Her photographs invoke a sense of realism. You can feel the ocean spray and hear the roar of the waves as the pictures immerse you and make you reflect upon your own relationship with the sea.

A subtle quirk of Wright's images is her use of natural lines that border or divide the image to create an effective contrast. Whether it is by using reeds, the oily ripples of the sea's surface or even Wright's own fingers, the result is the same as it draws your eye to the attractiveness the ocean holds.

What makes Wright's style different from other beach photographers is her ability to notice simplicity and make it remarkable.

Lola Wright's Aqua Frizzante exhibition will run until May 5. Head along and dip your toes in the water.
