Overview
Through the misty western highlands of Scotland and over the rough seas you'll find a wee island with a storied legacy that dates back centuries — rich with mystery and legend. This remote isle sits amongst crashing waves and boasts some of Scotland's most rugged and beautiful scenery, but that's not what makes it special. On 339 square miles of rough coastland you'll find eight of the world's best whiskey distilleries, some of which have been producing beautiful golden nectar for centuries in the exact same spots on clifftops and lakesides. This is Islay, one of Scotland's most legendary locations.
It's here that Ardbeg began 202 years ago on a clifftop off the southern tip of the island, and it remains to this day. June 3 is Ardbeg Day, where the world celebrates the masterful beverages produced by 200 years of tradition and innovation at that very location.
Head along to either The Jefferson or Sam Snead's House of Whiskey where you'll be treated to free games, tastings and paired canapes. This year it's said that attendants will be plunged under the ocean in a virtual reality tasting themed around the distillery's relationship with the sea and what lies beneath. What's more, you'll get to be amongst the first in the world to taste a limited edition bottle of Ardbeg known as 'Kelpie', which was produced for the occasion.
