Overview

For one day only, the waterfront industrial mecca that is Wynyard Quarter will play host to New Zealand's first pop-up virtual sculpture park.

Professional and emerging designers have taken on the challenge of creating a sculpture using materials usually hidden to the eye and key in the structure of the world around us - think steel piping and Electrogalvanised Steel Coil. After the first judging round weeding out the good from the best, twelve have made it to the finals for the chance to have their designs rendered in 3D.

The work will be on display in all of its 3D glory on iPads down by the waterfront and you can head down there yourself to vote for your favourite designs. Ah, the beauty of technology, transporting us into a virtual world more curious than our dreams.

Accomplished New Zealand sculptor, James Wright is the man who had the fate of the designers in his hot little hands up to this point and the calibre of the finalists is evidence of his knowledge of the industry and his eye for great design.

Like everything in life and especially when it comes to art - beauty is in the eye of the beholder, make your two cents count.
