Overview

Well hello! A fresh, diverse arts fest, Art Week Auckland is upon us.

The festival pulls together six neighbourhoods with 100 events and exhibitions over 10 days, including painting, performance, and everything in between. With a hot website and cute wee neighbourhood map, the organisers have got Auckland looking awfully confident as an arts destination with plenty to offer.

We all know that feeling of trying, helplessly, to whip around every event, talk and exhibit in a fest. This festival says "no point!"; instead visitors are encouraged to choose just one neighbourhood for an afternoon or evening of meandering. No point hurting yourself, grab a coffee, scope out the map, choose your neighbourhood and off you go for an afternoon of discovery and discussion, weaving between outdoor public art, exhibitions, zine studios and agent talks.

Our pick? Art Week by Cycle, a bike tour of the Newmarket exhibits on 18 October, 5-9pm. Take your bike to meet up at Hum Cafe, or you can hire a bike if you haven't your own wheels.  Bookings for this one are necessary, so email [email protected].

Art Speed Dating is set to be another favourite, allowing industry insiders and those new and interested to meet up for a chinwag.
