Overview
If you're keen to dedicate a full day to art as a means to break the weekend Netflix cycle, then a bus tour of art galleries may be a suitable option. Art Historian Glen Armstrong will be running a tour throughout Auckland Artweek visiting several Auckland art galleries.
Begin the day at Pah Homestead where you'll view the collection of notable New Zealand art collector Sir James Wallace. The gallery is situated on the lawn of Monte Cecilia Park in Hillsborough, so it's the perfect spot for a spring picnic overlooking the city.
Glen will then pile you back onto the bus and chauffeur you and your newfound "art friends" to the Mangere Arts Centre to see a selection of art, crafts and sculpture which represent culturally diverse artists of Auckland's up and coming art scene.
Afterwards you'll head to Otara's Fresh Gallery. Fresh has been set up as a professional art space which acts as a springboard for local artists in the community to exhibit their work and build a profile in the industry.
The final destination is the Papakura Art Gallery. The gallery fosters a relationship between emerging talent and established exhibiting artists. The centre also places emphasis on creative programmes which offer opportunities to budding artists in the community and enable them to further their skills in their artistic field.
Bookings are essential.
