Auckland currently has a bit of an obsession with all things rooftop — you only have to check out any one of the new rooftop bars opening around the city to get the idea. But we've got the inside word on gaining access to a very exclusive rooftop with a difference.

Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum's Incredible Rooftop Tours are back to welcome the warmer months, giving you a chance to check out a part of the museum you've probably never seen before — as well as a new perspective of the city. From the roof of the museum, you'll be able to see from Waitematā Harbour to Rangitoto Island, across to Mount Eden, One Tree Hill and beyond.

You'll also get to learn some of the fascinating histories behind one of the city's most iconic heritage buildings and the surrounding Domain. This is a great one for history nuts or visitors to the city — or we'd recommend taking Gran or Grandad for a fun morning out before grabbing a spot of brunch in the museum's cafe afterwards.

The Incredible Rooftop Tour season will run from November 1 2022 - 31 March 2023, with a daily session at 10.15am and an evening session at 6.30pm on select Tuesdays, to pair it with the museum's Twilight Tuesday sessions.

Tickets cost $30pp ($27 for museum members) — just be aware the tour includes stairs, so a certain level of mobility is required. Check out the museum's website for all the details.
