BIG FAN Turns One
The space has only been around for a year but already the venue has helped, educated and encouraged hundreds of budding performers.
Overview
Multiple-purpose music venue BIG FAN is celebrating its successful first year with an epic lineup of homegrown artists and comedians from Wednesday, November 8–Saturday, November 11.
Big Fan's Birthday Series will see the venue welcome comedians to its stage, marking the first time the space has expanded their offering beyond live music. On Wednesday, beloved local comedians Dai Henwood, Guy Williams, Liv McKenzie, Tim Batt and Hoani Hotene will be hosting a night of live laughs at the Comedy Night.
On the Friday, local musicians Molly Payton, Judah Kelley and Lucian Rice will take the stage, followed by a Studio Open Day on Saturday, November 11. Later that same day, the Birthday Series will be wrapped up with performances from WHO SHOT SCOTT, Fable and CRYSTAL.
Founded by Grammy award winner Joel Little who has produced hits for megastars like Lorde, Taylor Swift and Sam Smith, BIG FAN is a not-for-profit venue focused on not only being a space for live performance but also a place for up-and-coming artists to access tools and skills they may not able to achieve independently.
Since its inception, Big Fan has welcomed over 550 musicians, songwriters and producers and given them a space to flex their creative muscles — including an initiative for Māori, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander songwriters, and Ignite which is dedicated to developing young people's passion for music.
That's something worth celebrating.
