Cycle Action is teaming up with Auckland Transport’s Open Streets 2015 to bring you Auckland’s first annual bike gang competition. As an incentive to existing riding groups and to motivate a few new ones, the competition is looking to find the largest group of cycling enthusiasts in Auckland.

All dedicated, diverse, disastrous and deadly bike groups are welcome. If you’re not in one, make one; there are no rules about what a bike gang is, with Cycle Action saying it can be “friends, family, workmates, neighbours, gal pals, bad boys, like-minded snappy dressers, fellow tandem riders, lycra lovers – whatever your style”.

To enter, groups just need to ride en masse to the Cycle Action tent on Quay Street, register their gang for a headcount with the Bike Marshall and have a photo taken for posterity, any time between 10am and 3pm on the day.

There’s a $500 grand prize for the largest gang and a stack of spot prizes up for grabs for various categories such as most expensive bike, best dressed bike, youngest (and oldest) gang member, longest bike and more.

So what are you waiting for? ‘On ‘yer bike!’
