Bike Rave
It’s the biking dance party that everyone is raving about.
Overview
After its successful trial run with over 150 participants earlier this year, Bike Rave Auckland is back. Organisers attest that a bike rave is a simple concept. All participants need do is pimp up their bicycles with as many lights as they can get their hands on (blinkies, highflalutin LED wonderlights, or simply two dollar shop glow sticks zip tied to helmets and spokes), get together with a bunch of people, and ride along the waterfront accompanied by some excellent, synchronised tunes.
There’s no snobbery at bike raves, bikes old and new and riders of all ages and skill levels are welcome. It’s an event based on fun. The Bike Rave was inspired by the incredibly successful bike raves held in Vancouver, which have been called an "annual glowtastic mobile dance party on wheels" by Huffington Post, and involved over a thousand participants in decked-out bikes.
Organisers of the New Zealand version are a group of Aucklanders who love their bikes and want to bring some fun biking events from offshore to New Zealand for kiwis to enjoy. With rewards, fluro, lights and music what on earth would make you not want to get amongst this two-wheelin’ fun?
Rain date is a week later.
