Overview

After a few successful runs in Mission Bay, Auckland's Bike Rave is coming back — this time at Silo Park. Non-profit organisation Bike Auckland will be running proceedings, which will kick off at 6.30pm on Friday, October 26. You'll start with a mini party in Silo Park as the run goes down and, once your bike is kitted out and glowing, embark on the seven-kilometre trail, which will go down Te Ara i Whiti and down the Grafton Gully Cycleway before looping back to the park.

So what is a bike rave? It's a simple concept, really. All participants need do is pimp up their bicycles with as many lights as they can get their hands on (blinkies, highflalutin LED wonderlights, or simply $2 shop glow sticks zip tied to helmets and spokes), get together with a bunch of people, and ride along the waterfront accompanied by some excellent tunes. Bikes old and new, and riders of all ages and skill levels are welcome. Basically, you can do whatever you like — there's no snobbery at bike raves.
