Overview
Not only a place to look at prehistoric bones and ancient treasures; Auckland Museum is set to host the tallest Lego brick model in the Southern Hemisphere in its next big exhibition. Built from more than 450,000 bricks and standing at 7.5 metres tall, the replica NASA SLS rocket is just one of the attractions to appear at Brickman Awesome: Epic Lego Creations exhibition.
The work of epic Lego architect Ryan 'The Brickman' McNaught's was last on show at the Museum in Brickman Wonders of the World in 2018. Brickman Awesome: Epic Lego Creations will be his third exhibition made entirely of the interlocking plastic bricks.
The new exhibition will open at Auckland Museum on Thursday, 3 December, 2020 and continue through the summer holidays until Sunday, 2 May, 2021.
Almost 40 awe-inspiring creations will showcase some of the biggest, fastest and tallest things you can construct out of Lego. The models in the exhibition are made from almost two million bricks and took collectively more than 5000 hours to build.
Models in the exhibition include the first life-sized Harley Davidson ever made, and the largest ever Caterpillar 797 dump truck. An almost five-metre-long Shinkansen train and a more than three-metre-long Antonov 225 aeroplane will also be on display. The NASA rocket will take pride of place in the Museum's South Atrium and will come with its own in-built lighting and sound system to give the effect that the rocket is blasting off into space.
Following the success of Brickman Wonders of the World, booking online is recommended to secure a session time. Door sales will be possible, but subject only to session availability.
