Overview
This Cinco de Mayo, on none other than the fifth of May, everyone's favourite Mexican-influenced restaurant is hosting a margarita masterclass to get you further acquainted with one of Mexico's favourite exports.
Quick history lesson; Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army's victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. An unlikely win, the Mexican army was less than half the size of the French and thus the battle was a great victory for the nation.
Celebrated more outside of Mexico than anything (unless you happen to be in Puebla) Cinco de Mayo is mostly an opportunity for those of us outside of Mexico to drink tequila in excess. Chicanos (the chosen identity of some US-born Mexican descendants) typically celebrate Cinco de Mayo because of its cultural significance.
So it seems an evening of making and consuming margaritas is very fitting and Mexico have teamed up with Jose Cuervo so you know that it's going to be a night to remember…or not.
This is happening at all four Auckland branches and for $30 you couldn't find a better deal on Cinco de Mayo. You know you won't be able to resist those delicious quesadillas to soak up the tequila so remember to bring some extra coin.
Like anytime you're out celebrating another country's holiday (think St Patrick's Day) do yourself a favour and school yourself before hand. This is not Mexican independence day and wearing a sombrero, fake moustache and yelling "arriba" isn't a good look. Play it cool.
