The global phenomenon of dining in complete darkness was created in Switzerland by a blind clergyman. French organisation Dans le Noir (In the Dark) has been hosting eyeless events at Rydges Auckland since March last year, including full-course sensory feasts, wine tasting, stand-up comedy and pitch black dating. The absence of sight awakens senses and enables guests to completely reevaluate their perception of taste and smell.
For its next event, Rydges is promising an experience much more rewarding than your average blind tasting; a social and sensory experience for cocktail lovers. Across two hours on March 22 guests will sample and personally customise three different gin-based cocktails by award-winning mixologist Logan Demmy with matching canapés. The experience will allow tasters to ignore cleverly worded cocktails lists and preconceptions with spirit brands and purely focus on the senses.
The ticket price includes a drink on arrival, a blind tasting experience of three different cocktails and matching canapés. It is limited to 24 seats.
