Overview

Brad Allen has a job that is right up there with travel writing, wine connoisseuring, and whatever it is that Kim Kardashian does. He is a multi-talented gaming generalist, who completes the 2D and 3D modelling, character design, hard surface modelling, iconography and UI design for video games. His greatest achievements include Titanfall, Medal of Honour, and, hold onto your hats boys, Call of Duty. The iconic video game responsible for binge gaming sessions, relationship rifts, and apparently the violence of society’s youth worldwide. And now Allen, the mastermind behind some of the game art, is spreading his knowledge in a one-off workshop.

The workshop is the perfect opportunity for aspiring game artists, no matter their skill level, to gain a little insight into the work of concept art. The studio will be set up in a mock-up of Allen’s own leading concept design studio Respawn back home in Los Angeles. Each student will gain invaluable one-on-one time with the expert within the studio environment, where artists will be working with an art director’s vision to increase their art speed and develop their techniques and style.

With the opportunity to ask questions, communicate and discuss amongst an industry expert and other like-minded individuals, the workshop could provide a foot in the door into a highly sought after career. Simultaneous workshops include Bungie’s Jason Sussman, Valve’s Fletcher Dunn and Mike Porter, leader of Auckland’s Media Design School Game Art Programme, and students will be given the opportunity to converse with guests of these other workshops also. Girlfriends nationwide may need to plan a girls night in.
