Overview
Weird, wry and wholly talented indie artist Connan Mockasin is returning to Aotearoa this autumn to tour his new concept album Jassbusters. With him, Connan brings his own fictional band of high school music teachers, also named "Jassbusters". And no, this is not mad libs, this is just a taste of the vivid artistry of Mockasin's mind.
This March, The Crystal Palace will be the stage in which Connan finally unveils Jassbusters to the world. The evening will begin with an exclusive film screening of Bostyn n' Dobsyn. The film is named after two key members of the fictional band Mr. Bostyn (played by Mockasin) is an ageing guitarist who leads the band, and his student Dobsyn (played by Blake Pryor). With them, they carry a faint whiff of sleaze and stale coffee, that is ever so apparent the counterpart studio album by Connan. Speaking of, things will then become a bit "meta" as, Bostyn, Dobsyn and the rest of the Jassbusters will perform songs from the Jassbusters album live on The Crystal Palace stage straight after the film.
The album itself, although by a fictional band, is still irrefutably in the Mockasin brand. Not to worry, if you're a long time fan of Connan's, the evening will then settle back to reality with an hour long performance by Connan as Connan. Either way this will be an evening you'll never forget.
