Dawes

Glass half-full optimism, minor-chord tension, soulful gospel, rock tongue-in-cheek, and epic, Dylan-esque.

Overview

As part of the month-long Southern Fork Americana Festival, L.A. based folk-rock band Dawes will take the stage at Vector Arena’s dedicated folk and roots venue The Great South Pacific Tuning Fork.

The group, made up of brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith, as well as bassist Wylie Gelber, take their lead from the gentle acoustic and rich harmony stylings of the 'Laurel Canyon sound', a free-flowing genre made famous by the likes of Crosby, Stills & Nash, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell.

With their recently released fourth album All Your Favorite Bands, Dawes managed to evolve beyond their counterparts to establish their own sound, now boasting offbeat descriptions like: glass half full optimism, minor-chord tension, soulful gospel, rock tongue-in-cheek, and epic, Dylan-esque.

Having already road-tested the album before live audiences from Sonoma to Santa Barbara, Auckland audiences can expect a well-oiled live experience.

Special guests include Waitakere alt-country duo The Bads.
