Overview

Usually you’d have to travel to London or Paris to see such an impressive collection of international modern art but luckily for us,  Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki is bringing Europe to Auckland this autumn with the exhibition Degas to Dalí.

Representing the major art movements of the mid 19th to mid 20th centuries, these works enable you to trace the development of modern art from Realism in the late 1860s via Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Cubism, Expressionism and Surrealism to the birth of Pop Art in the mid 1950s. The collection comes to us from the National Galleries of Scotland (NGS) and includes works 79 by modern artists such as Monet, Van Gogh, Renoir, Ernst, Magritte and Warhol.

To help you get the most out of this fantastic opportunity, go along and listen to the talk given by Simon Groom, the director of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, on Sat 3 March and Sun 4 March at 11am. He will discuss the philosophy behind the building of the National Galleries of Scotland collection and talk about some of his personal highlights in Degas to Dalí.

Informal talks will also be held in front of one of the works in the exhibition every Wed-Sun at12pm, 1pm and 2pm.
