Folk Week: Auckland Live Summer in the Square
The nation's top folk artists unite to celebrate the 45th annual Auckland Folk Festival.
Overview
Folk Week is here. Before you start to envisage beret-wearing tree-huggers sitting around on hay bales jarringly plucking banjos, we want you to know that this folk festival is quite the contrary. The lineup features some seriously cool Kiwi musicians who have gained international recognition for their melancholic, brooding melodies and poetic songwriting.
To celebrate 45 years of the Auckland Folk Festival, you can see a range of acts perform live at Aotea Square for free.
During the week Aotea Square will transform into the country's smallest music venue, Tiny Town, which will be the hub to catch all the action. You can expect to hear songstress and author Flip Grater, string duo Fables, the etherial Reb Fountain, indie-folk duo The Bollands, the beguiling Mahoney Harris, a rendition of the Scottish poet and songwriter Ivor Cutler's work, the blues-flavoured Shindig and the gypsy-rooted Ravens.
It's the perfect summer evening activity for the whole family.
