Overview
If you missed them at Laneway (shame on you), the soulful Fortunes will be gracing New Zealand once again in May. Conor McCabe and Barnaby Matthews met again in Melbourne years after attending Hamilton High School. They teamed up to create the kind of dreamy R&B that makes you feel all the right feels, with exquisite vocal harmonies and wistful electronic beats. Think The Neptunes, think Anderson .Paak, think D'Angelo in particular.
Both Conor and Barnarby claim to have started music before they could read. It shows. Fortunes recently signed to the Future Classic, the record label responsible for Flume, Nick Murphy and Jagwar Ma. It's a big move for two boys from the Waikato, the region that gave us Katchafire and Kimbra, among others. I predict that you'll be hearing a lot about Fortunes over the coming months and years. See them now and forever tell your friends that you saw them 'before they were cool.'
