Fresh Hop 2016
On offer this year will be 30 different concoctions, including a fresh hopped cider and a fresh hopped gin.
Overview
For the third year running, brewmasters from the super-city will flex their beer-making muscles as part of Fresh Hop 2016.
The event connects brewers with hops fresh off the bine to create exclusive 'fresh hopped' brews, a process that typically results in more aroma and more flavoursome beer. It's not dissimilar to cooking with fresh herbs over the dried varieties that are readily available in the supermarket.
In 2014, 12 local brewers came together using Waimea hops. Through collaboration, this year's brewers have create 30 different concoctions, including a fresh hopped cider and a fresh hopped gin, which will all be released to the public in craft beer bars across the city on April 16.
This year's event will be held between Brothers Beer, Vulture's Lane, The Lumsden and The Brewers Co-operative. To the hassle of transport, booze importers Beertique have sponsored a bus that will be on a continuous loop of the bars from 12pm to 7pm. Use of the bus is free for all fresh hoppers!
