Overview
Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra— New Zealand's largest and most accomplished professional symphony orchestra— is playing a particularly special show late this April. A full host of musicians will take over the Toi o Tamaki Room in the Auckland Art Gallery to play five pieces by Kiwi composers inspired by visual works by New Zealand artists that are on display at the gallery. This showcase is conducted by Hamish McKiech and features new compositions by Chris Adams, Sarah Ballard, Linda Dallimore, Glen Downie and Reuben Jelleyman.
In a celebration of both visual and aural art, the music will be accompanied by large-scale projections of the works that inspired them to offer insight into the motivations of each composer alongside a dazzling audiovisual experience. A renowned composition by Russian romantic era composer Petrovich Mussorgsky will also accompany the Kiwi pieces.
This showcase provides a rare and unique opportunity to enjoy the finest Kiwi classical music and visual artwork together in one setting.
