Overview

It’s been over a decade since Gillian Welch toured New Zealand. The sold out show was described by one reviewer as “music with history, soul and a human heart.”

After taking a few years off, the Nashville, Tennesee singer-songwriter is back to perform at The Civic with her musical partner, guitarist David Rawlings. The pair’s sparse and dark musical style is not easily classified, combining elements of Appalachian music, bluegrass, and Americana with modern elements of rhythm and blues, rock 'n' roll, jazz, and punk.

Together the pair have released seven albums. Their 1996 debut, Revival, the 2001 release Time (The Revelator), and their fifth studio album The Harrow & The Harvest all received nominations for the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. Their most recent offering is Nashville Obsolete, released under the name of the Dave Rawlings Machine.

Now, with their lauded catalogue in tow, the duo will make their way to New Zealand for one show. Attendees can expect a set of beautifully crafted songs alongside a selection of covers from the deep-seated Americana genre.
