Overview
The Going West Writers Festival is an annual event that celebrates community, creativity and culture. With a range of writers, poets, musicians and other creators involved and plenty of interactive panels, talks, film screenings and other events to get excited about this September.
The main event of this festival is the annual Literary Weekend, which will run from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon. The daytime program features Kiwi writers in conversations, discussions, live readings and more. Or, enjoy an evening of poetry slams, with courageous poets taking the stage with their most witty poetry, battling it out for the $500.
The Going West Opening Night is immersive, inspirational and an absolute must-see. Join Apirana Taylor, the internationally published Māori poet, storyteller, playwright, novelist, actor, painter and musician. Also appearing at the opening night is internationally acclaimed novelist Elizabeth Knox who will be sharing her take on this year's festival theme. Don't miss a live performance by The Bellbirds, with four Auckland voices taking the stage for an unforgettable evening.
