Overview

In line with Matariki (a traditional midwinter Māori celebration), there's one exciting initiative putting a modern spin on New Zealand's oldest and most celebrated dish — it goes by the name, Gourmet Hāngi.

Every Sunday in July the hāngi master himself, Rewi Spraggon, is set to heat things up with a selection of Auckland's finest chefs and restaurants, including Farina, The Tasting Shed, Baduzzi and The Grounds.

While little has been revealed aside from descriptions like "Asiatic delights" and "kai cultural fusion," essentially, each event will showcase the ultimate marriage between deeply rooted traditional cooking and modern day culinary excellence. So it goes without saying that reserving plenty of stomach room is recommended.

For just $100-125, a one-way ticket to unearthed brilliance could be yours.
