Overview

Did you see that video by Coldplay featuring Beyoncé? The one that's shot in India? Yeah… it's a culturally inappropriate mess. Artist Bepen Bhana thinks so too and the video is the starting point for looking at cultural appropriation.

Bhana's realist paintings in show focus on the contradictory role of Beyoncé, an African American woman who is dressed as a Bollywood star in a full desk bridal sari with an elaborate matrimonial headdress and henna. The gestures in the video imitate those from Indian classical and spiritual dance.

If you're looking for a show that cuts through the bull, this is it.
