Overview

From some of the most powerful lungs New Zealand music can lay claim to, Hollie Smith's Band of Brothers album release party this Wednesday at Sale Street is set to be an energic and soulful affair. Earlier this year I saw Hollie play an intimate gig at Britomart Country Club. Without knowing nearly half the songs, the performance she delivered was enough to completely win me over and had me wishing my shower serenades had even a fraction of the belt-it-out gusto she makes look easy.

Hollie's new album hears a completely different side of her songwriting ability. This is due in part to the collaboration with Mara TK. The album feels more effected, more experimental and at times her commanding vocal removes itself to a mere ghostly voice in the distance, proving her talent and the sheer scope of musical tricks she's still got up her sleeve.

Sale Street provides the perfect backdrop for Hollie's album release do this week. Cross fingers for a some sunshine and hit up the deck for an evening that it sure to be a true hats off to one of the country's favourite artists.
