'Home Alone' in Concert
Relive the 90s Christmas classic with a live orchestral score.
Overview
It made a star out of Macaulay Culkin, and made every 90s kid hope their family went on holiday without them — and it's the highest-grossing Christmas film of all time. It's been essential end-of-year viewing for nearly three decades and will return to the big screen in a huge way this December.
Welcoming 2020's festive season in the most appropriate fashion, the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra is busting out the best movie there is about an eight-year-old who outsmarts two burglars while living it up without his parents and siblings. That child, of course, is Kevin McCallister. The film is Home Alone. And on Saturday, December 19, 2020, the APO will not only play the beloved classic at Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre, but perform John Williams' rousing Oscar-nominated score live during the flick. The performance is part of the APO's 2020 season which also marks the orchestra's own 40th anniversary.
If your response to the above news is to hold your hands to your cheeks and exclaim, then you'll want to nab a seat.
There's no need to set traps or play pranks to grab a ticket — they are available as part of the APO's 2020 season. And even if you're buying yours online, if you feel compelled to yell "keep the change, ya filthy animal!", no one will judge you.
