Horror

A homage to the slasher classics of yesteryear.

Overview

Fans of horror films take note; a new experience of gleeful gore is coming to Auckland, in the form of Jakop Ahlbom's newest play. It's a live action experience which pays homage to horror classics of yesteryear— from The Shining to Carrie— using impeccably orchestrated physical acts and the clever use of horror tropes (think slasher film orchestrations and ominously flickering lights).

Somehow the acclaimed Swedish-born playwright behind the spectacle has managed to bring all the intensity and dread of the genre's best films to the stage, creating scenes that include both loving nods to the past and fascinating innovation.

The Guardian called it, "a masterclass in time-and-motion stagecraft," and described one particularly horrifying scene where five men climb out of a bathtub in eerie succession after a drowning. It's not for the faint of heart, but this is certainly a show you won't forget.
