Overview

Blood-curdling screams are set to ring through Avondale this October as the Hollywood Cinema transforms into Horrorwood.

The cinema's month-long lineup of the world's best horror, slasher and thriller flicks kicks off with the New Zealand premiere of Saint Maud. The 2019 British psychological horror was written and directed by Rose Glass in her feature directorial debut and follows a hospice nurse who fears that she may be possessed when she becomes infatuated with a former dancer in her care.

There are plenty of classic flicks on the stacked 30-film bill, including the fantasy splatter film The Wizard of Gore, the original 1974 version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Wes Craven's 1977 cult cannibal film The Hills Have Eyes, and much-loved 1980s slasher films Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Elsewhere, special presentations include Scream and its sequel Scream 2 as a back-to-back 35mm double feature, and an immersive 4D cinematic experience called FOGARAMA in which the audience is engulfed by a mysterious fog. See the full lineup here.
