Overview

You've probably heard of Bikram yoga; the hot and sweaty yoga style that allows participants to push stretches deeper and detoxify at the same time. If you've ever wanted to try the age-old discipline, now's your chance. Across two days in September, Britomart Bikram yoga studio Hot Yoga Works is hosting a free yoga marathon across 22 hours.

The weekend aims to get Aucklanders stretching while quenching their curiosity for hot yoga. The style of Bikram practised at Hot Yoga Works has been designed to work every muscle, tendon, ligament, joint and internal organ in the body. The challenging and rejuvenating experience is completed across a series of 26 postures and two breathing techniques in 40-degree heat.

Keen yogis aren't expected to stick it out for the entire marathon — the weekend will highlight all of the studio's offerings across 14 different classes. Participants are invited to try traditional Bikram; yin, a slower-paced style that holds postures for longer periods of time; nidra, which offers a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping; a yoga party, and a silent Bikram class to a specially-curated playlist. Find the full schedule here.

Donations from the weekend will be given to charity.
