In Plain Sanskrit
A hot, sweaty kinetic exploration of tradition.
Overview
The plight of the third culture kid has been brought to the Q Theatre's stage in Raina Peterson and Govind Pillaj's In Plain Sanskrit.
Peterson and Pillaj form part of the twenty million-strong Indian diaspora. In Plain Sanskrit is a hot, sweaty and kinetic immigrant's attempt to address the meaning of tradition. In order to do so the classical and contemporary dancers are digging up the dusty archives of dance and using 3000 year-old traditional Indian dances (Mohiniyattam and Bharatanatyam) and yanking into the contemporary New Zealand setting in order to tell their story.
